The Whirlism series began in 2010 when my daughter Sophie asked a question that altered my course and changed my art practice. "Mommy, what should I do when I grow up?" My response was do what brings you joy. Then she asked me, "Are you doing what brings you joy?"
This question propelled me into honestly searching for my inner voice.
Whirlism started as a juxtaposition of tightly structured and loosely playful shapes. I enjoy the journey from the right hemisphere of my brain to my left and back again, in the process producing an invitation for the viewer to engage with color, shape, and the way they interact with each other.
Whirlism has taken on many forms and is available in paintings, jewelry, and sculpture.
During 2020 I had the opportunity to explore new ways to see these shapes and collaborate with a wildly talented artist, April Phillips. She used one of the shapes and made a mosaic on it. I have always loved collaborative art pieces and this got me thinking about offering my copyrighted shapes to other artists and starting a community of artists who produce art on these shapes.
I do actively show and sell my work. Commissions are always welcome. My personal website and artist resume is available at: www.VisualizeArt.com.
